Our Clinic

ADHD / ADD Diagnosis – Our Vision

ADHD Consultancy aims to provide a bespoke, high quality yet affordable  ADHD/ADD diagnosis and treatment service.

Unfortunately, the NHS is overstretched and under-resourced.  Many people face waits of many months, or even years, to be seen by their local service, assuming that such a local service exists.

Doctors and psychiatrists generally receive little, if any, training in adult ADHD/ADD. As a result, there are many misunderstandings about the different ways that ADHD can present itself in adults and children, especially in terms of high functioning presentations. People with lifelong difficulties can be refused the diagnosis and treatment they need, even by specialist NHS ADHD teams.

A way forward

Our comprehensive report will cover the ways in which your ADHD/ADD has affected you across your life. The report also covers comorbid mental health and other neurodevelopmental issues, which are so often found alongside ADHD/ADD. In addition, it offers a concise formulation that will help you understand your difficulties including psychodynamic insights where appropriate. Our aim is to help you understand yourself and move forward with your life

If appropriate, we will prescribe stimulant medication. We also work with you and your GP to get you shared care NHS prescribing. Almost all of our patients have been successful in getting their medication from their GPs to date. The report will detail reasonable adjustments suitable for school, college, university or workplace.

We also offer a wide range of psychoeducation, coaching style advice, and a wealth of psychoeducational and cognitively based material tailored to your needs.

This will all be available after your appointment via email.. We also offer a free email aftercare service – once seen you can email our doctors at any time with queries or concerns.

Many private practices are prohibitively expensive, so we aim to offer an affordable, yet bespoke high-quality service. While ADHD Consultancy’s main focus is ADHD/ADD diagnosis and treatment, our comprehensive assessment also looks at other associated or comorbid conditions.

Our multiaxial assessment will highlight these, and their impact on your functioning and well-being. Dr Read is also a trained psychotherapist, specialising in Cognitive Analytic Therapy, and her psychodynamic and cognitive understanding and strategies really help in the journey of self-understanding, and formulating a treatment plan. Dr Read also has ADHD herself and has a deep personal understanding of how ADHD impacts lives and which treatments actually work.

An affordable, high-quality service

Dr Read has a special interest in rejection sensitivity

Despite not (yet) being part of the diagnostic criteria, people with ADHD/ADD so often struggle with rejection sensitive dysphoria and other emotional issues as part of these conditions.  Our treatment plans for this condition are highly effective

ADHD can affect girls and women differently

ADHD in girls and women is often overlooked. Instead of hyperactivity, many experience internal restlessness, mental fatigue, emotional overwhelm, and difficulties with organisation or sensory processing. These traits are frequently mislabelled as anxiety, depression, or personality issues — leading to years of masking, self-doubt, and burnout.

Hormonal fluctuations (such as around the menstrual cycle, perimenopause, or after childbirth) can make symptoms worse, and we often see overlap with conditions like fibromyalgia, digestive issues, joint pain, and histamine sensitivity — patterns that standard ADHD models rarely address.

At ADHD Consultancy, we take a broader, more compassionate view. We understand that ADHD can look very different in women — and that recognising these variations is essential for accurate support and treatment.

Our Genetic Insights Project

We’re currently running a clinical research project to better understand the biological patterns behind ADHD — particularly in women. This includes looking at genetic contributors to traits like fatigue, inflammation, language processing difficulties, sensory sensitivity, and hormonal fluctuation.

This project is available exclusively to diagnosed ADHD patients under our care

If you’ve had DNA testing through services like 23andMe or Ancestry, you can upload your raw genetic data to receive a free, personalised genetic insights report. This includes:

  • A review of SNPs related to dopamine regulation, immune function, circadian rhythm, histamine sensitivity, connective tissue, and hormonal signalling

  • Tailored suggestions around medication, pacing, dietary strategies, hormonal support and sleep

  • Integration with your clinical picture to help guide care and next steps

  • Anonymous contribution to our wider research into ADHD phenotypes and gendered presentation

We believe better understanding leads to better outcomes — and that embracing complexity is key to unlocking new approaches to ADHD care.
